The inspiration for Threshold is the feeling of bewilderment. Bewilderment, by its very nature, is inexplicable and incoherent. A bewildering experience is uncategorizable – it is a site of liminality. With that as my inspiration, I began to consider the experience of crossing through a doorway. When you cross through a doorway, you are going from here to there – the doorway serves as the mechanism for passing from one place to another. Rarely do you stop inside the doorway – the experience of crossing through that doorway is short, and often not considered. In Threshold, I attempt to stretch out that process of crossing through – to encourage viewers to slow down and think about a fleeting liminal space and experience that they encounter every day.
